| To My Friend, Loretta |
| Friendship dwells within our heart,
How does it happen, where does it start; It gives us warmth and a special lift, Because it’s God’s most precious gift. Back in the fifties, was our special day, A friendship was formed and it came to stay; Though time and distance took us apart, Here we are in each others heart. Husbands came and husbands went, The years rolled by and they were spent; But here we are you and I, still holding fast, To times gone by and memories that will forever last As for me, I think of you each and every day, Memories I have of us, safely tucked away; Then as I sit down to open my mail, As I see BEARETTA, my heart does sail. Remember the times we spent the night, Into your room, lock the door, turn out the light; Out through the window to have some fun, Back before dawn and the rising sun. The next day at school how tired we were, How did we do it, it’s all such a blur; Meet at the malt shop with Dorleen & Ken, Off to our classes until the days end. Afternoon dances out by the gym, In the days when we were small and trim; Tight skirts and sweaters and white buck shoes, You never caught us singin the blues. The times of boredom and going S L The best of the rack of Lerner’s on sale; A bag full of clothes and all out of breath, Until you got caught and scared us to death. The night spent at Danny’s, just two of us there, Smokin and drinkin and fixin our hair; We both got drunk, oh what a pair, Then you burned a hole in his leather chair. Now we’re old and we don’t talk much, But in our small ways we keep in touch; Our friendship stood the test of time, As proof of this I send you this rhyme. The next time you think that I don’t care, Open this page and I’ll be there; With all these memories I do send, All my love to my dear friend. |
